Story

Hydro Extrusion Germany and Hydro Rein have teamed up for an ambitious venture towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. This initiative spans three key extrusion facilities in Offenburg, Rackwitz, and Uphusen, as well as a remelt facility in Rackwitz.

Known for their cutting-edge machinery and precision engineering, Hydro Extrusion Germany and their facilities have long been leaders in the aluminum extrusion industry. With a history of supplying top-quality products to sectors like industrial applications, construction, and renewable energy, these facilities are integral to the local economy.

Construction for this project began in Q2 2023, marking the start of a new era in sustainable manufacturing. The solar fence installation in Offenburg, a standout feature of the initiative, was among the first elements to be operational in addition to rooftop solar on all facilities. As construction progresses, four advanced battery storage systems, with a combined storage capacity of 6 MW are being installed, expected to connect to the grid by the Q4 2024.

Benefits

At the core of this collaboration is a shared goal of optimizing energy efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. Through the integration of renewable energy sources and innovative storage solutions, Hydro Extrusions Germany and Hydro Rein are driving forward sustainable practices that will shape the future of industrial manufacturing.

Across the three sites, the project includes 1090 KWp of roof-mounted solar cells (distributed over three sites), about 87 KWp installed as a solar fence, and four battery storage solutions with a total capacity of 6 MW (distributed evenly over four sites).

Together, we are leading the way towards net zero emissions, setting new standards for the industry and inspiring others to join in the journey towards a greener, more sustainable world.

Every step matter on the path to zero emissions. The solar fence is a small contribution compared to our total energy consumption, but clearly shows that Hydro is finding new solutions where possible - Hubert Ronecker, Managing Director at  Extrusions Offenburg
